Do you miss the fries after following the keto diet?

If, like me, you love French fries and can’t live without them, I have a recipe for you!

Today I’m sharing with you a delicious recipe for kohlrabi fries that can be made in just one hour. They would be the perfect side dish for any keto meal.

Crispy and very tasty!

Does it really taste like French fries? Well, um… Honestly, no, I think they have more of a sweet potato flavor that I even like better than regular fries. If you’re like me and love baked potatoes, you’ll love these!

The fries turn golden brown and can even be fried in the hot air fryer to save time! Instead of turning on the oven, you can set your fryer to 360 degrees and let it bake for 20-25 minutes, checking halfway through.

Watch the video below to see how to easily make these kohlrabi fries.

Here are some recipes for the preparation of roasted turnip greens:

  • Place the peeled kohlrabi in the microwave for 30 seconds to soften. This makes cutting easier.
  • To remove the starch, place the sliced turnip stems in cold water with a teaspoon of salt and let them soak for 20 minutes. This makes the fries crispy.
  • The size of the fries will decrease slightly during baking, so keep that in mind if you want thin drumsticks or thick steak fries.
  • Serve it with our keto ketchup to keep the carbs as low as possible!
  • Make it into a dish and add bacon, cheese and chives for a roasted turnip. Or you can even make nacho keto potatoes with cheese, ground beef and sour cream! The possibilities are endless.
  • Like regular fries, kohlrabi sticks can be sliced and stored in the freezer until ready to cook.

A delicious low-carb alternative to kohlrabi fries!

  • 3 medium sized bags of carrots
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups of water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley

Fill it up:

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1/4 cup bacon bits (optional)

Peel the turnip and cut it into quarter-thick slices, like French fries. If you want a more tender steak, you can cut it thicker, but keep in mind that you will need to add a few minutes of extra cooking time. To make cutting the rutabagas easier, microwave them for about 30 seconds to soften them.

In a bowl, mix the chopped rutabagas with cold water and 1 teaspoon salt. Let them soak for about 20 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Empty the water from the bowl. Add olive oil, remaining teaspoon of salt, pepper, garlic powder and parsley. Stir to make sure chips are evenly coated.

Place the seasoned fries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread them out evenly and bake for 30 minutes. Add the chips and turn to coat. Increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees and bake for another 10 minutes.

Message: Although a serving of fries contains 12 net carbs, which is higher than you’d expect from a low-carb alternative, we think it’s still a good option to try fries occasionally. A normal serving of fries contains 30-50 grams of carbs, and this is a much better alternative!

Goodbye sweet potatoes – we don’t need you anymore!

Using kohlrabi to make these delicious potato-like fries is a great low-carb vegetarian tip! Keto or not, kohlrabi fries are worth a try if you’re looking for the perfect side dish, especially if you have kids who don’t normally like vegetables.

My team member Jenna tried this recipe (pictured above), and here’s what she says about it:

You’ve gotten so big! We usually add kohlrabi to mashed potatoes (when I’m adjusting the keto), and it’s one of my favorite side dishes. Honestly, I never thought I would eat them as fries, but they were great and even my veggie-hating son loved them!

The flavor and texture were perfect, and I liked that the thin fries were immediately crispy, so keep that in mind if you like crispy fries. The spices were really the star of this recipe – so delicious! – Jenna
